What is Section 179
Section 179 allows businesses to purchase, finance or lease qualifying new or used equipment that is operated for business purposes more than 50% of its use. The equipment must be put into service between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024.
To qualify for Section 179, the equipment must weigh 6,000 pounds or more. In the I.R.S. Publication 946, the maximum expense deduction for an SUV weighing 6,000 pounds or more is $28,900 for the 2024 tax year. Not all businesses will receive the full deduction as the monetary amount eligible for Section 179 is the cost of the vehicle multiplied by the percentage of business-use.

The Maserati Levante qualifies for the Section 179 deduction based on gross weight. The Levante with V6 trims weighs 6,116 pounds and with the V8 Trofeo trim weights 6,228 pounds. Section 179 applies to both new and pre-owned Maserati Levante models.
